Gym Day One: ‘Before’ Pics

That is me pointing at the sweat on my brow after my first work out in forever!

Yesterday was my first day at the gym in over a year. My legs are now sore, but I actually had energy when I got home last night… which is the opposite of how I usually feel! Day one and it’s already working!

So without further adieu, here are my “before” pictures.

I ran 1.25 miles in 19 minutes… so basically I walked fast.

I did 2 sets of lunges and my legs are totally stiff today.

I did 3 sets of hammer curls, some tricep things, and a few other random exercises just to get myself started.

I’m going again today, but I’m not sure how my legs are going to hold up. I think I’m going to focus on upper body and abs.

I was there for a total of 35 minutes… Baby steps to start. I really felt like I was going to barf when I was done. Maybe because I didn’t give my lunch enough time to digest?

Now for the whole “eat better” thing… and I am by no means claiming that I’m eating totally clean. I’m eating better foods and a lot less crap. I’m certainly no expert and I’m not going to commit myself to anything ridiculous that I know I won’t be able to stick to.

Breakfast – Dunkin Iced Coffee with milk, 2 sugars and an egg and cheese wrap.

Why this is better than usual: I usually get an iced mocha latte (loaded with chocolate syrup) and 2 egg and cheese warps with a bag (or 2) of hash browns.

Lunch – Ground turkey with fennel, broccoli, and Parmesan cheese.

Why this is better than usual: I usually have it with pasta. Lots and lots of pasta.

Dinner – Egg whites with cheese and a spinach/banana/blueberry/mixed fruit smoothie.

Why this is better than usual: Tuesday we usually get Chick-Fil-A. Rick and Rocco went and ate chicken and fries. I went home and made egg whites.

Dessert – I didn’t really have dessert but since we’re being totally honest here, I did have 2 bites of Rocco’s cookie dough ice cream.

I also prepped balsamic chicken with basil & garlic to grill tonight… I’ll have it with spinach in a salad. Just the chicken and the spinach, so yummy. I actually didn’t like raw spinach for a long time but I tried it while we were on vacation and it’s not bad. Maybe it’s the whole “your taste buds change every 7 years” thing?

Oh, and yesterday morning I was nearly 140lbs. This morning I was 137.2. My weight fluctuates by a few pounds every day anyway, but hopefully cutting out the enormous amount of carbs and sugar I’ve been eating will help it drop fast.
