Laura Ling & Euna Lee are two American journalists being held in North Korea. They were working on a project in China and were accused of crossing the border into North Korea. They were arrested on March 17th and were found guilty 2 months later. They have been sentenced to 12 years in a labor prison. These are “hell” on earth places. These young women have families and Euna has a little girl. They have not seen their families and have barely been allowed contact with anyone. There seems to be some hope that they will be let go, and I’d like to think our government is doing everything it can to negotiate their release… It is just extremely scary because these people truly despise us and have no value for human life.
Click here to sign the petition “Amnesty for Laura Ling & Euna Lee”. There is more information there too. The petition only takes a minute or two to fill out. The goal is a million signatures, right now it’s at around 5,000.
Laura is the sister of former View co-host Lisa Ling. They have been holding vigils all over the country. Laura was able to call her sister Lisa the other day and said she is being treated fairly and they are staying in a guest house. Hopefully that is true.
There does seem to be some hope as of yesterday, however I’m sure most of what is being negotiated will not be made public until they are released.
You can follow them on Twitter @liberatelaura and get more information on their story and things going on in North Korea here.

1Another possible negotiator, if the U.S. government approved, is former Vice President Al Gore, who founded the TV venture that both reporters work for., so blame him and exchange then make him take their places.. Hiding frightened coward!

2I feel really sorry for these women…really I do. I hope they return home safe and sound to their families. Having said that…why weren’t they thinking of those families when they illegally crossed the border into North Korea, which they’ve admitted to doing? You just don’t FUCK with North Korea, given the relationship between our countries. Because of their carelessness, we are spending time, money and resources on getting them out. I signed the damn petition, I want to see a happy ending. But at the same time…dumb, dumb, DUMB!!!

3Hello, friend! I have a question. I was going to sign that petition but you have to put your address and everything. That makes me nervous. Do you know if they display it? I don’t want the North Koreans coming after me!
