This is my 5 year old daughter Kyla… She is in a Hannah Montana phase bigtime. Do I encourage this? I think it’s ridiculous and I know I should just go with the flow but isn’t she a LITTLE too young to be getting into Hannah Montana? What about Care Bears, baby dolls, princesses, etc… Dora WHO? Are other 5 year olds into this? Maybe I am just out of touch because she’s my first & only kid so I don’t know what they’re into at what ages but at 5 I was all about playing house!!
If she’s old enough to rock out to Hannah Montana she is certainly old enough to clean her room without putting up a fuss… so I think I will take advantage of this.
Anyway, your thoughts?

1That is so cute! Unfortunately, kids are just subjected to so much and it does make them grow up so much faster! My 5 yr old daughter would much rather play video games (like her older brothers) than her dolls any day! I feel like she missed much of her toddler years!

3Is it just me or does that child sound super obnoxious? If she’s this pretentious now just wait ’til she’s 12!
And yes, I have a 5 year old and she talks/acts nothing like that.

4Tell her I have a CHR station she could work for. She already sounds better than most of the jocks.
She might be too articulate for the audience though.

6I dunno about beating yourself up. I would be carful to talk your gossip “ship talk” around your little one. you are one mom who your child would love to hear the business meetings. And you making a career out of gossip willl indrectly say that gossip is an important part of life. And celebrities misbehaving is important. Ok now two fun facts. The average child is interested in things 4 to 6 years older than their actual age. Also as a bit of a gossip and popular culture hound, I suggest you check out a frontline documentary called “ther merchants of cool. I Found it chilling seeing how they use such extremely scientific and insightful applied psych, sociology, and marketing techniques to infiltrate and monetize anything bubbling up in youth culture. heck if that stuff was possible in the 60s then the social change would have likely been much for a fashion statement than anything else. Ok I have totally geeked you out, so I will shut up now

8I agree with Yikes. There is nothing cute about this…especially coming from a 5-year-old. My daughter is nine, and she’s not into Hannah Montana because I don’t let her watch it, plain and simple. I don’t think girls need to have stereotypes shoved down their throats at such a young age before they get a chance to discover who they are. The girls on the show are catty and spiteful. By allowing your young child to watch this show, you’re telling her it’s okay to be that way.
It’s no wonder today’s kids have no sense of etiquette or empathy. Parents seem to think this behavior is cute and therefore encourage it.
I bet it won’t be so cute when she’s 16 and pregnant…but then she would be following in your footsteps so you’d probably be okay with it anyway. BTW, from a Mom’s perspective, how are comfortable with putting up your daughter’s face on the internet for strangers to watch? In this day and age I’m shocked that parents think that’s a good idea.

9Do I not say in the post that I do NOT like her watching Hannah?? I had never even seen the damn show and I put it on after this whole Hannah obsession started about a month ago and I was like uh… no way! You can’t really judge my kid based on one video where she’s being a smartmouth… and I don’t want her watching the show… because they are nasty – and I have already dealt with nasty kids her age and I have been very clear with her that she is not to talk that way or behave that way!!
Geez

10Goodness, she is a five year old that found something she’s interested in right now. Everyone has their phases, and Hannah Montana is EVERYWHERE! Even if she doesn’t watch the TV show, she is still surrounded by it. Maybe five is a little young to be getting into things like that, but I think all kids in this generation are growing up quicker than they should. There is no reason to be judging her personality on just one video, which I personally think she looks cute in.

11Yeah, I’m taking heat about my daughter becoming spiteful from an adult who is picking on an innocent 5 year old!!! My kid ROCKS!!

12I think I may be missing something here…
IF you don’t let her watch the show Dana, why is she holding a Hannah Montana DVD?
My guess is you posted this video on here because you were secretly proud of her attitude (let’s face you, you DO think it’s cute or you would have never posted this video on here) and you wanted other people to back you up and tell you how super cute your daughter is. If I were bothered by my child’s actions, I certainly wouldn’t post a video on the internet to gathered strangers’ opinions. That’s screams of needing validation…so sad!
The BS is getting super deep around here. BTW, every parent thinks their child rocks. You’re not unique.

13Don’t listen to them, Dana. I think she’s cute, and she seems like a fun kid with an adorable personality! So what if she likes Hannah Montana? Why does that make her snobby?
Hannah Montana is suitable for children, although Miley Cyrus may not be. Yea, they may be the same person, but little kids don’t realize that. When they think of Hannah and Miley, they think of Miley Stewart, and she seems nice. They don’t think of the 15 yr old (beep). And I have seen other videos of Kyla on your youtube account and she seems like a sweetie.
And “Wow” of course all parents think their kid rocks. Dana never said she was unique for that. What’s wrong with saying it?

16Try introducing her to something else. ——————Thinkin—————— yeah uh, what else is out there? Lady Gaga?
Kids will be kids. they are easily influenced. but it’s up to you as a parent to guide them. I’m sure this “Hanna Montana phase” will be over soon. [Let's hope.] 3 years from now Disney will have another “star” plastered on HD – she won’t even remember Hanna Montana. and by the sounds of it, Kyle may just have moved on to something better like…the Dave Mathews Band… :P
Happy Mother’s Day!

18Both Kyla’s parents work in the radio business…of course she is going to have a bubbly, outgoing personality. I don’t see how someone could get that she is a snotty kid who’ll get pregnant at a young age from that video. In the video, I saw a child who was joking around and was excited about her new movie.

22Hello parents…
Ya know, this morning, Kyla and I, while listening to KidzBop on the way to school, were talking about things to remember…
… being nice to everyone…
… being a friend to everyone even when they’re not so friendly to you…
… washing your hands every time you go potty…
It’s funny how trends happen. It’s Hannah for now. Last month, it was Care Bears… Barbies? That was so 3 months ago – in HER mind… which like any five year old… GIRL mind… change with the weather, ya know?
IMHO – there are FAR worse things for her to be ‘in’ too than some Disney shows. In fact, knowing some of the Disney people like I do from this business, I’ll tell you this: there’s no brand more protective of their wholesome kid-safe image than the Mouse House.
Let’s let kids be kids. Jeez. I’m living my childhood again thorugh mine. You should try it sometime… :)
Tonight, I’ll have her make a video for you guys while she’s watching Hannah before she goes to bed. Maybe she’ll lecture you guys on being ‘nice’. Amazing… how grown ups sometimes can’t even do what kids seem to have mastered…
I’ll say this. Dana and I have an amazing little girl. I don’t mind sharing her with the world. She doesn’t mind it either. And, Dana and I both know when to pull the cord and keep certain things private when it comes to Kyla. And, I’m no expert on parenting, but I’ll put our – individually and collectively – up against any ones. Any time. Any where. We do the best we can. And, all I have to do is kiss her forehead before she goes to sleep, see her smile at me with her eyes closed, to know I’m doing alright. I bet it’s the same when she’s with her mom.
Boom Boom Clap, here’s to the Hoedown Throwdown… if you need instructions on how to do the dance, I’ll ask Kyla to make an instructional vid for you…
