This is Duffy performing her song “Mercy” on Jay Leno. I get a lot of requests for this song on my radio show, and the video is on VH-1 and it’s really cool.Â
I would say move over Amy Winehouse, but I think she’s taken herself out of the way.
Anyone else really like this song? It’s fun.
Should I post about music stuff like this? It’s not really “dirt”, but I follow music and I like to push new artists that I like. So please comment… I’d like to see more comments – and the comment thing DOES WORK!! I know there is a glitch that tells you it doesn’t work – I am trying like hell to figure out what it is but I’m getting nowhere… so anyway, your comments do go through. I just have to moderate them, but when I do you’ll see them in the sidebar.

Where Amy has soul and the blues soaked into her songs,
this Duff chick sounds more like a cat caught in a dryer
singing along to a faux-Doors melody.

2I don’t really think she sounds like Amy Winehouse, it’s just the retro kind of sound… Amy’s definitely better, but I like this song and when I heard it I thought of Amy. I don’t think this girl sucks though!

5The posts on here are as if Amy Winehouse is some sort of benchmark. Sheesh people, Amy is Amy…..let it go. Personally, I think Duffy is fantastic, although my being impressed has come from all the vids and music stemming from the UK. This Leno performance, makes me believe she is being coached to be more pop…..I hope she realizes she doesn’t have to and shouldn’t try to do more than keep it simple soul.
The emphasis of her release is based on the Northern Soul (or just offshoot Motown if you will) sound, and that is how I feel it should be introduced to the US and anywhere else.
