I know a couple of people who auditioned and you go through an initial screening process (possibly a couple of them) before getting to audition for Randy, Simon and Paula. So if you are middle of the road and/or just don't seem interesting enough they don't put you through. Which sucks because good people get turned away so that awful people can go through.
